Education and Research

Imagine youth learning about mental health the same way they learn about math and science.

Our education and research programs do exactly that.

They help young people understand mental health in simple terms, using the most up-to-date information and research.

This way, they get to know their own emotions and thoughts a little better.

Plus, we provide real-life stories from people who’ve been through similar struggles as a crucial reminder that they’re not alone in this.

By giving youth this extra knowledge, we’re not just helping them for today. We’re preparing them for tomorrow.

Spotlight: Talk Today

Talk Today is one of the most comprehensive mental health and sport-related programs in Canada.

Its mission? To promote the mental health of young athletes and spread awareness about the benefits of positive mental health throughout communities across the country.

History

Originally launched by CMHA Ontario in partnership with the Ontario Hockey League in 2014, the Talk Today program is now entering its 10th season, with continued growth including partnerships with the Canadian Hockey League, the Canadian Junior Hockey League, and Taekwondo Canada. Since its inception, more than 8,600 players, coaches, billet parents, and staff have participated in the program.

Why Talk Today?

For many young athletes, the pressures of competitive sports, combined with the typical challenges of growing up, can take a toll on their mental well-being.

The spotlight and rigorous training can sometimes overshadow the emotional and mental struggles they might face.

Talk Today addresses this by focusing on the mental health of these athletes, emphasizing that mental well-being is as crucial as physical fitness.

The Big Picture

By partnering with renowned sports leagues and organizations, the program brings mental health to the forefront in communities across the country, reducing stigma and promoting open conversation.

For a decade, Talk Today has fostered a supportive environment where athletes can freely discuss their struggles and seek assistance.

Your Part in The Journey

With your support, these athletes and their teams will always have the tools, advice, and a welcoming place to share and learn.

These athletes are role models, and their openness about mental health challenges can inspire countless others to seek help or offer support to those in need.

When you support Talk Today, you’re pushing for a world where understanding, care, and staying strong mentally are at the heart of everything.
